The Republic of Equatorial Guinea is currently hosting the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) annual meeting in the capital city Malabo.

The meeting is being held at the Sipopo Conference Center, Equatorial Guinea’s state-of-the-art facility specifically built for tourism and international conferences. The site has hosted the African Union Summit, among others, and is set to host the upcoming African-Arab World Summit later in the month.

The President of Equatorial Guinea, HE Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, will meet with the visiting Administrator of the UNDP, Helen Clark, who also holds the title of Chairperson of the United Nations Development Group (UNDG). They will discuss the importance of economic and social development, as well as progress the country has made in regards to sustainable development.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Agapito Mba Mokuy, and Prime Minister in charge of Administrative Coordination, Francisco Pascual Obama Asue, will also meet with Clark.

The annual meeting gathered government officials, top economists, and UN program managers to discuss the adoption and progress of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Equatorial Guinea has a strong relationship with the United Nations in several areas. Government has donated funds to the Solidarity Fund to Fight Hunger in Africa, as well as signed agreements with the Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to implement development projects.
